Northbound migratory mosquitoes
-
Mosquitoes and the diseases they harbour aren't the only ones making the move northwards. Something similar is happening with the phlebotominae, known commonly as the sand fly. These flies normally feed on the blood of bats and inhabit the caves of South America. They are the primary vectors of leishmaniasis, or sand fly fever, a disease typical of the world's tropical areas.

The identity of China's first space tourist has become a matter of speculation in China's business circles. So far it is known that it is a man under 40, from the southern Zhejiang province, who is unmarried and deals in electronics. Also his surname is Jiang.
Musk deer
It's been a day of nerves, physique and emotions. Beginning at 0730, Mukhiya and I ascended Gangapurna in search of Blue sheep and the elusive musk deer. On the way up the peak, just before passing the ridge over Gangapurna Lake, Mukhiya stops to ask a woodcutter if he's seen any musk deer (because he's so confident about finding Blue sheep he doesn't even ask about those!) And the answer is positive: a musk deer crossed the trail right around the "big rock".
The convenient fallacy
The world basks in the after-glow of another series of Live Earth concerts preaching the environmental cause. How much credit goes to its high priest, "Do-as-I-say, not-as-I-do" energy guzzler Al Gore?
When Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year and was later listed as one of the Top 10 Ethical Heroes of 2007 by UK magazine Ethical Consumer, stories began circulating that the laureate lives his life in hypocrisy.
